Doctors in Unite abhors the violation of civil liberties and fundamental human rights in all forms. The right to peaceful protest is no exception.
There is no rational basis to arrest and detain Graham Smith, and other members of Republic, for peacefully gathering to protest the coronation of King Charles III.
The Public Order Act that enabled their arrest is an assault on our democracy. Our country is one of tolerance, where people of all beliefs and none should be allowed to peacefully co-exist. Monarchist and republican alike have the right to demonstrate their views.
The slippery slope towards authoritarianism starts with the silencing of citizens to speak out, calmly and reasonably, against those in positions of power.
