STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY WITH ST JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL IN EAST JERUSALEM AFTER THE HOSPITAL WAS INVADED BY ISRAELI POLICE WHO ATTACKED MOURNERS CARRYING THE COFFIN OF ASSASSINATED JOURNALIST SHIREEN ABU AKLEH

Gen. Dir.: Jamil Koussa Medical Dir.: Dr. Maher Deeb

To our colleagues in St Josephs Hospital in East Jerusalem.

As Doctors and trade unionists we stand in solidarity with colleagues and health workers in St Josephs Hospital in East Jerusalem.

We condemn the disrespectful and disproportionate actions by the occupying forces who disrupted the funeral of respected Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

In invading the hospital uninvited the Israeli forces disrupted the functioning of the hospital, frightening patients and injuring thirteen people.

We stand for the right of health workers everywhere to go about their work unhindered, treating the sick without interference or intimidation.

Yours in solidarity

MESSAGE TO DOCTORS IN GERMANY WHO ARE TAKING STRIKE ACTION OVER PAY AND WORKING HOURS

Background information here

“Doctors in Unite, the doctor’s branch of Unite the Union in the UK send solidarity to our comrades in Marburger Bund for you strike action to achieve a 5.5% pay rise and an end to onerous working hours.

We have similar struggles in the UK. Inflation is massively outstripping wage increases such that most workers have seen a real terms pay cut over the last decade or more. Diminishing investment in the NHS as a proportion of GDP along with increasing incursions by the private sector have lead to fragmentation  of services and intolerable working conditions only exacerbated by the pandemic. In the UK we have some of the worst doctor and nurse to patient ratios in Europe along with fewer hospital beds per capita than most comparable countries.

We wish you success in your strike action and hope that it can give inspiration to doctors and health workers in the UK to do the same!

Solidarity”

Jackie
